Dunedin Cosmetic Dentist and Unicorns...

I've always enjoyed fantasy novels, Lord of the Rings, Thomas Covenant, George RR Martin, not so much Harry Potter but I've read them. What I've always loved is the imagination behind these books, and how they let my own imagination go.

I've also always loved mythology. Its fascinating to me to see how cultures evolve through story. If you ever want a great sociological look at the rise of Christianity and the fall of paganism in mythology, read King Arthur.  But I digress, in a geeky manner.

There is a real, live unicorn living in Italy today. This little deer is the product of a genetic flaw, his twin was born with two horns. He lives on a preserve in Italy, in the Tuscany region. I like that, he's protected and free to keep on being the world's only known unicorn, without some barbarian mounting his head above a fire place.

The scientists involved further went on to say that genetic malformations like this may have begun the legend of the unicorn in the first place. Researchers also believe that the narwhal (now there's a strange looking creature, who can fault Nemo?) and other mammals may have also contributed. If they find the real live creatured that caused of the myth of the pegasus, I'll shave my head.

One more thing on Unicorns, if you're a fantasy fan and you want a good read, check out "The Last Unicorn" by Peter Beagle. Arguably one of the most dynamic books of the 20th century.

So... I hide my geeky side in the office. Come visit me there and I'll give you a FREE Exam and xrays (valued at $257). Call 727.733.1175 or visit me on the web at www.allaboutsmiles.org. See you all on Monday!

The Last Unicorn isn't myth, just story. The closest I can liken it to is The Little Prince. Try it, I think you'll enjoy it!
